PWA World Cup Lake Garda: Long wait for the Ora - after a short morning race on day 3Photo: Si Crowther
Unfortunately, the long-awaited Ora did not arrive in Torbole today either. It is currently too rainy - the thermals on the lake are therefore very limited. However, the cool, gusty remnants of the morning's northerly wind were sufficient for the first eight heats of the second elimination before the wind died completely at around nine o'clock.

When a solid 10-14 knots of wind were measured on the lake at seven o'clock this morning, the competition organisers scheduled an early start for the men's second elimination at 7:45 am. Unfortunately, the wind dropped by the minute - after a good hour of racing and a total of eight heats, the race was unfortunately over at 9.00 am, in the middle of the quarter-final rounds. The second race could not be completed today, so there was no change to the overall rankings from yesterday.
There were also no big surprises in the three of the four quarter-finals today: All the top riders from yesterday's first elimination proved their expertise in the difficult light wind conditions again this morning.

Prien and Becker also still in the race

With Michele Becker (2) and Nico Prien (3), two Germans were directly on the podium yesterday after the first race. This morning, the two also left nothing to be desired with third places in the quarter-finals of the second elimination and are still in the running.

Outlook for the weekend

The clouds cleared slightly in the afternoon and the wind shifted to the popular southerly direction (Ora), but unfortunately it was not strong enough to continue the second race. The riders remained on standby throughout the afternoon until the race organisers drew a line at 4pm and officially ended the day.
On paper, the forecast for the weekend has improved slightly and we could finally see racing in onshore southerly winds close to the beach.
Skippers meeting is tomorrow morning at 9.00am - the first possible start at 9.46am.
