At the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge, speed surfers from all over the world can compete against each other using GPS
Start of the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge season: the first period of the global online speed contest has been running since 1 April. Anyone can take part and upload their results.

Competing against each other, pushing each other and finding the fastest windsurfer without having to travel a lot - that's the idea behind the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge. Björn Dunkerbeck wants to bring speed surfers from all over the world together and publicise new speed spots. "Anyone from anywhere in the world can take part, all you need is an account on gps-speedsurfing.com and a suitable GPS device," says Dunki. What's more, participation is free of charge.

Three sections, three speed disciplines, three special classifications

In 2023 there will again be three separate periods:

  • 1 April - 31 May: Gran Canaria Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge
  • 1 July - 31 August: Summer Edition
  • 1 October - 30 November: "The Third"

In all three time periods there are individual rankings for fins, foils and wingfoiling. The ranking list is based on the average speed over 250 metres. In addition to the open class for men and women, there are also separate rankings for Grand Master (51-60), Super Master (61-70), Ultimate Master (71-99), Youth (0-10), Junior (11-14) and Junior Plus (15-18).

In addition to the ranking list, there are special rankings in all three event slots:

  • Period 1: Who is the fastest on the nautical mile (1.852 km)?
  • Period 2: Who is the fastest alpha racer? (500 metres including jibe and return to the starting point with a maximum deviation of 50 metres)
  • Period 3: Who can reach a top speed of over 2 seconds?

Anne Schindler new Race Director

With Anne Schindler, the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge has a new race director. The former German speed surfing record holder is set to bring a breath of fresh air to the event. "This is a significant step towards more equality in water sports!" says a delighted Björn Dunkerbeck. "Hopefully this will motivate more women to take part in the event, as the sport is still very much dominated by men."

You can take part in the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge here:

In addition to the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge, there are also other contests with GPS rankings, such as the Bavarian Speed Kini ( speed-kini.de ), for Saxony the Sax Speed King ( sax-speedking.com ) or various events and evaluations under gps-speedsurfing.com .
