From 3 to 10 September, if the wind is right, there will be a start every day from around 8:00 am. The 11th of September is also planned as an alternative day. The venue is the surf and kite beach in Born on the Darß, near the Rainbow Camp. The race will therefore take place on the Saaler Bodden, where there is a good chance of the water being as smooth as possible.
The International German Championship is an official event, but guest surfers are also welcome. Since 2008, the Orther Reede on Fehmarn has been the venue for the speed runs, but this year the organiser is switching to the Darß.
Among those registered are Andy Laufer and Gunnar Asmussen, who are both among the fastest Germans and have already raced on the speed channel in Lüderitz. Other well-known names from the speed scene such as Manfred Merle, Torsten Mallon and Ralf Ewers are also taking part. Also Young speed surfer Michel Gutbier is on the registration list.
The race takes place on a 500 metre course, which is set according to the wind direction. Start and finish buoys ensure that all riders have the same conditions. Measurements are taken by GPS. A session lasts one and a half hours, during which the course can be completed as often as desired. The average of the two best runs is taken into account in the ranking.
