From 30 September to 3 October 2023, the German Windsurfing Championships will be held for the first time on Lake Wittensee in Schleswig-Holstein. Several classes will compete, including Formula Foil, Open Techno 293, iQFoil and Open Windfoil, as well as their youth categories.
The most prominent starter is the current European champion in Formula Windsurfing, Vincent Langer, who also works as a junior coach for the surfers of the Schleswig-Holstein Sailing Association. Langer was also German champion in the Fin Slalom class at the Multivan Windsurfing Cup on Sylt and has already won three world championship titles and now six European championship titles. He will be up against Fabian Wolf, the new German Foil Slalom Champion, among others.
Races are shown on a large video screen
The schedule provides for a maximum of 28 races for each class on the regatta course over the four days, with at least five races required to crown a German champion. The first start is scheduled for Saturday, 30 October 2023 at 12:30 p.m., with the last possible start on 3 October at 2 p.m. For interested spectators of this event, the organisers have set up a large video screen provided by Eckernförde Touristik und Marketing GmbH. The individual races on the water will be broadcast directly on land for the guests, so that they can follow the action virtually up close in the front row. There are also various gastronomic offers
The event can also be realised on this large scale thanks to the generous donations of regional companies: These include the Harald Striewski Foundation from Fockbek, which has covered the team clothing and the winners' trophies, the wind farm developer Dencker und Wulf from Sehestedt, which is providing additional cash prizes for the winners, and VR Bank Schleswig-Mittelholstein, which has also subsequently covered part of the costs of repairing the roof of the clubhouse of the Wittensee water sports club in order to increase the club's financial scope for the organisers.
