Better late than never - Schmidt Max learns to windsurf

Windsurfing on television is rather rare. Bayerischer Rundfunk has put its cult figure Schmidt Max on the board. You can see what he experiences on his surfing course on YouTube

He is a cult figure in Bavaria, Schmidt Max, known from the TV programme "Freizeit" on BR television. The TV presenter, storyteller and globetrotter with the unmistakable cheeky moustache experiences the little adventures on our doorstep in a humorous way. Also on the water. Sometimes he paddles through the canals of Venice on a SUP or cruises around Lake Chiemsee, goes fishing on Lake Constance, meets up with Bulli campers or the Pope in Rome - usually travelling in his green Opel Kadett, built in 84.

Last year, Schmidt Max jetted off to Lake Garda to learn windsurfing at the Stickl sports camp in Malcesine. Former world champion Karl-Heinz Stickl himself looked after the prominent student. "Now I'm doing what I should have done a few decades ago," says Schmidt Max at the start of the adventure. We say it's never too late to learn the best sport in the world, dear Max.

The episode, which was shown on television last summer, is also available on YouTube - and is definitely very entertaining:
