Five to six force winds and a wave of around one and a half metres off Westerland: not yet World Cup conditions, but enough for waveriding at the German Windsurf Cup. The shorebreak made it almost impossible to get boats and buoys out on the water for slalom races anyway, so the waveriders were allowed to have a go.
It took around three hours to complete a full elimination. In the end, the winner was newcomer Anton Richter, who had already put in a strong performance in the slalom and is currently in second place. The 17-year-old Anton won the final against his brother Leo Richter, who is two years older. Father Philipp, who has been on the regatta scene for 30 years, finished in fourth place. He lost the small final against Mats von Holten.
Slightly weaker winds are forecast for today, Thursday, and everything points to foil slalom. The Multivan Windsurf Cup on Sylt, which is also the open German championship, runs until Sunday. In addition to the competitions on the water, the event on the promenade offers a packed programme with yoga, family fun, catering and parties.
