From 30 September to 3 October 2023, the German Windsurfing Championships will be held on Lake Wittensee in Schleswig-Holstein. The Wittensee Water Sports Club is organising the regatta in collaboration with the Wittensee-Rendsburg Windsurfing Club. Over four days of competition, the International German Champions in the senior class "Formula Foil", the International German Youth Champions in the pre-Olympic class "Open Windfoil Youth" and the International German Youth Champions in the junior class "Techno 293" will be crowned. The races are scheduled daily between 10 am and 5 pm.
Just under six weeks before the start, two absolute top riders, Vincent Langer and Fabian Wolf, have registered for the regatta. Nils Präger and Max Winkler, who currently occupy second and third place in the German rankings, are expected to compete in the Open Windfoil Youth class. The youngest youngsters will start in the Techno 293: Gustav Grünbaum, the current leader in the German rankings, and his rival Smila Petersen, who also leads the girls' rankings, will compete with twelve other athletes for the youth championship title.
A maximum of 28 races are planned for each class on the Wittensee, whereby at least five races are required to name a German champion. Three national race organisers will be in charge of the regatta: Thomas Michaelis from the Rowing and Tennis Society Wesel 1907 from North Rhine-Westphalia, Konrad Sagebiel from the Academic Sailing Club Greifswald zu Lübeck and Manfred Fritsche from the Eckernförde Sailing Club. The arbitration panel will be chaired by international arbitrator Finn Mrugalla from Flensburger Segelclub, a member of the World Sailing Racing Rules Committee.
The winner of the senior class can look forward to 500 euros in prize money, the winner of the youth class will receive 300 euros and the first in the junior class 200 euros. The runners-up can also take home cash prizes. The regatta is supported by the wind farm developer Denker & Wulf from Sehestedt, which has donated 5000 euros.
You can still register for the regular price until 13 September, late entry is possible until one day before the races.
The entire regatta will be broadcast on screens on land so that spectators can also experience the action up close. An extensive accompanying programme with music rounds off the event.
By the way: 1001grad Events will pay the entry fee for the German Championship on Lake Wittensee for all those under the age of 19 who are competing in the Racer of the Sea this season. "The official youth championship is the only regatta in Germany where youth championship titles in windsurfing are awarded and is therefore the highlight for most young regatta surfers at national level. It was therefore a matter close to our hearts to support and promote participation in this highlight of the season," say Racer of the Sea initiators Leon Delle and Oliver-Tom Schliemann about their sponsorship.
