Thanks to such a wildcard, Ricardo Campello can play directly in the main round of the World Cup in Pozo, which starts on Saturday. He will therefore be spared a possible qualifying round. Because he was very far down the annual rankings last season, he is not seeded as usual this year.
Ricardo has been on site in Pozo for a few weeks now and seems to be training hard. "Returning to Pozo Hardcore is a challenge; one hour of surfing here feels like five hours of surfing anywhere else!" he wrote on Instagram. Before that, he hadn't touched windsurfing for almost a year. Nevertheless, he wants to go full throttle: "I've been working as hard as I can to prepare for the World Cup and I'm slowly getting there!"
Just like last year, Ricardo has pulled out all the stops to be in Pozo - back then, star DJ Martin Garrix supported him. This year, at least at first glance, no major sponsor is recognisable, Ricardo is mostly sailing his own sails, of which he has a whole boot full
Some of his boards also bear the Campello logo - but he has not yet revealed whether these are new shapes or repainted older boards.
