Strong wind racing and freestyle in perfect conditions: The World Cup on Fuerte is back!
Formerly a fixed date in the World Cup calendar, a shaky candidate in recent years: the World Tour is returning to Fuerteventura for the first time since the pandemic. From 27 July to 5 August, men and women will be competing in slalom and freestyle.

René Egli's windsurfing centre in Sotavento celebrates the return of the World Cup: "The wait is over! At René Egli Fuerteventura, we are delighted to invite you to the 35th anniversary of the legendary World Cup on Fuerteventura!" This is possible thanks to the support of the local authorities and a hotel chain, they say. In previous years, the event could not be organised due to a lack of acceptance in local politics.

From 27 July to 5 August, the slalom riders will be making a guest appearance in Sotavento, which could mean the next regatta with strong winds shortly after the event in Gran Canaria. The men and women will also be competing in freestyle - the first World Cup of the season for them.

However, the organisers are not only focusing on equality, but also on sustainability: "In cooperation with our environmental partner SOMWR, we will also offset the entire CO2 emissions of the athletes, crew and event operations by a factor of 10!" they say. In addition to windsurfing, the programme also includes races organised by the Global Wingfoil Association GWA.

After planned contests in Croatia and Tenerife had to be cancelled this year, the confirmation should bring joy to athletes and fans alike.

His surfing CV includes all the famous choppy water spots: As a teenager, he went from his home in Münsterland to the Ijsselmeer or the Brouwersdam, and during his civilian service on Sylt, after countless washes on the west side, the Königshafen became his preferred spot. After studying in Kiel and Heidkate, he was supposed to go to Hamburg “only for a short time”, but this short time has lasted for over ten years and has made him a “weekend warrior”. He goes on tour with his family and camper van as often as possible, often to the Baltic Sea, SPO or Denmark, but also likes to go to Finland, Sweden or Sardinia.
