The PWA officially confirmed the Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup Sylt on Sunday evening, and a few days earlier the organisers from Act Agency had already published a similar statement. One thing is certain: for the first time since 2019, the world's best windsurfers will be competing off Westerland. The programme includes wave riding (women and men), freestyle and slalom (men only). At least in freestyle, the World Championship title will also be awarded on Sylt.

In wave riding, the World Cup in Tenerife is still pending, having been postponed from the summer to the autumn. A slalom event in Japan is also still on the agenda, but neither contest has been confirmed yet. It is therefore not entirely out of the question that these titles will also be awarded on Sylt, making the World Cup the grand season finale.
"We can hardly wait to experience eleven days of world-class sport together with the spectators on Sylt again," says Matthias Neumann, Managing Director of the organising agency ACT Agency from Hamburg. Björn Dunkerbeck will also be on the island: "Sylt is the mother of all windsurfing events. I have celebrated great successes there. The spot is one of the best, but also one of the most difficult in the world." As part of the event, Dunki will present a preview of his documentary film "The Movie".
World Tour continues to shrink
The confirmation of the World Cup is a ray of hope for many professionals, as the PWA calendar had continued to shrink over the course of the year. In addition to funding problems, strict coronavirus regulations (Maldives) and a lack of permits from the local authorities (Fuerteventura) had repeatedly led to cancellations. In wave riding, the Cape Verde Islands and Pozo two events, in slalom only the contest in Croatia, which is not fully rated. The freestylers will even meet for the first time this year on Sylt.
