The right consistency for every application.
For windsurfers, stand-up paddlers and wingsurfers who are often exposed to the sun for hours on end, reliable sun protection is essential. We were able to test three Suntribe products extensively during the windsurfing test in Tobago: the Sun Stick, the Zinc Sunscreen in a tin and the Mineral Sunscreen in a tube.

Suntribe - who is that actually?

Suntribe has already made a name for itself in the surfing scene with natural and environmentally friendly sun care products. For all products - from sticks to creams - Suntribe promises not only long-lasting, safe protection against UV rays, but also an environmentally friendly composition without harmful chemicals. All packaging is completely plastic-free or fully recyclable. According to EU regulations, products with the "waterproof" label must still provide 50 per cent of the original protection after 2 x 20 minutes of standardised bathing. Suntribe, on the other hand, promises reliable protection for a two-hour surfing session. Even without a laboratory test, we can attest to very durable and solid protection in practice (windsurfing).

Tested "on board": Application and consistency of Sun Stick & Co.

The Suntribe cream from the tube is particularly suitable for large-area application (whole face, hands, arms, neck, nape) and has a fairly creamy, thick texture. It can be applied very sparingly - as you should - and spread quite well with a vigorous massage, is mostly absorbed and leaves only a very light shimmering film on the skin. Removing residue from the inside of the boom or paddle requires soap - but it should be done, because once the boom has been greased, the good grip disappears permanently. This applies to all sunscreens. Tip: The last residue can be rubbed off the palms of your hands with plenty of (damp) sand just before surfing. On the water, the cream has proven to be particularly waterproof. Nothing runs into the eyes and even after hours on and in the water the cream was still on the face and not washed away. Even in the scorching Tobago sun, the protection lasted almost the whole day and resulted in a completely unburnt test.

The Suntribe Sun Protection Stick is particularly practical for the vulnerable areas of the face. It is easy to apply without getting any of the paste on your hands, making it ideal for use on the beach between uses. The firm consistency holds securely and colours are available to taste. We also found this to be very effective in protecting the cheeks, nose and chin.

The Zinc Sunscreen from the small screw-top tin can even be carried in board shorts. With a very firm consistency, it is also economical to use, this form is suitable for the face, forehead and ears and can be applied and spread with one finger. Whether the colour shades "original white" or "mud tint" are more appealing is a matter of taste.

Ingredients

Suntribe products score with natural ingredients:

  • Zinc oxide: Provides broad spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays.
  • Coconut oil: Intensively nourishes the skin.
  • Beeswax: Ensures water resistance.
  • No synthetic chemicals or parabens, free from nanoparticles.

This composition makes them not only safe for the skin, but also environmentally friendly - ideal for all water sports enthusiasts who care about sustainability.

Conclusion

Suntribe offers three different dosage forms, which are very well suited for use in water sports. The sun protection was fully convincing in practice. The cream reliably stays on the skin for a particularly long time and obviously offers very good protection. The stick also proves its worth as a "touch-up" on the nose and cheeks - where the sun cream is often rubbed off unintentionally with the back of the hand while on the water. The products from Suntribe are available here, for example.
