In the April issue, we presented the new 3D concept behind the ION Icon Curv presented. The idea behind it: Hard shell harnesses can support the back perfectly - if they fit perfectly. To ensure exactly this, manufacturer ION now offers the model in several versions that are cut at different heights. This is to prevent the edges of the hard shell harness from cutting in uncomfortably. The padding on the Icon Curv can also be changed to accommodate straight or more curved back shapes.
We strictly followed the size recommendation and tried out a model. The shell is indeed very firm, but is lined with soft edges. Our test model fitted really well on the water and the forces were distributed comfortably over the entire surface. However, the difference between the two back pads supplied is quite small. However, the features were absolutely convincing: The fastener can be operated perfectly and also seems very solid. The adjustment system is also beyond reproach. Behind the hook plate, a thick rubber coating ensures extensive pressure distribution and protects the chest in the event of a whiplash. This also successfully prevents the hook from tipping up.
surf conclusion: The ION Icon Curv harness is very expensive at just under 370 euros, but also offers an ideal mix of comfort, back support and top features. The manufacturer's size recommendation fitted perfectly in our case. However, despite our positive overall impression, we would recommend trying the harness on in the shop. The ION Icon Curv is available, for example at Online Surfshop .
