Following the Presentation of the premium D/LAB top-of-the-range models in early September Duotone is now introducing further construction methods and a number of Freemove models. The manufacturer positions the Cosmic 4 SLS as a wave board for challenging spots such as Maui, Cape Town, Cape Verde, Brittany, Ireland, Chile and Mauritius. According to Duotone, it has been specifically designed for powerful groundswell conditions with side- to side-offshore winds. The board is aimed at advanced to expert-level riders and is not intended for onshore waves. The SLS technology is positioned below the top-of-the-range models.
The Freemove concept with freestyle DNA
In the freemove segment, both technologies are being launched simultaneously. According to the manufacturer, the Ultra Freewave 2.0 makes no compromises between pop and wave feel, but instead combines the two. It is based on a new-school freestyle shape with the acceleration and pop that are often lacking in classic freewave boards. At the same time, it performs well in side-on waves up to logo height. The board remains responsive when planing, sharp in turns, and, thanks to the new tail, turns tighter and more spontaneously than ever before, according to Duotone. Changing the fins supplied transforms the board’s character: as a single fin, it’s direct and precise; as a thruster, it’s loose and designed for carving. The Ultra Freewave 2.0 covers bump and jump, side-on waves and freestyle. The D/LAB version is manufactured using full custom technology: CNC-moulded and hand-built from carbon and Innegra/Kevlar for a crisp ride, high dent resistance and a weight-to-strength ratio that, according to the manufacturer, is unrivalled. Both versions are available in sizes 74, 84, 94, 104, 112 and 119 litres.
Wave sails featuring SLS technology
When it comes to sails, Duotone also positions the Super Hero SLS below the D/LAB range. The sail is based on three design principles: wind range, durability and ultra-lightweight construction. The Super Hero SLS is designed to remain responsive and lively throughout its entire lifespan, from the first to the last jibe, at every spot and in every season. It’s not just about the lowest figure on the scales, but about the lightest feel in your hands. The Super Hero SLS is available in sizes 3.0, 3.3, 3.7, 4.0, 4.2, 4.5, 4.7, 5.0, 5.3 and 5.7 square metres.
Five-batten sails for freewave and waves
The manufacturer promises that the Duotone Duke combines freemove and wave riding in a five-batten sail. According to the press release on the new products, it senses the board beneath your feet and shifts its centre of pressure accordingly. On a multi-fin wave board with higher drag, it pulls evenly for maximum control from the first bottom turn right through to the crest of every critical section. The Duke is designed for advanced riders seeking maximum wind range and precise handling in wave, bump-and-jump and freestyle conditions. According to the specifications, the Duke SLS is around 300 grams lighter than the standard version. Both Duke versions are available in sizes 4.2, 4.5, 4.7, 5.0, 5.4, 5.8 and 6.2 square metres; the standard version is also available in 6.7 square metres.
