Wave sail test 2023: The GA-Sails Manic 4.7 in the individual evaluation with all strengths and weaknesses

Across all sizes, the Manic is launched as a 4-batten concept. The profile is rather flat, but thanks to the perfect protector, Kevlar patches on the top and integrated carbon fibres, the equipment is of a very high standard. The Manic is already one of the lightest sails in the breeze, but requires a little technique to find the right angle of attack to the wind and to plan. Once up to speed, however, the sail stabilises well and is agile in the hand, gusts and chops are pleasantly absorbed by the profile, although the clew trim needs to be adjusted a little earlier than with the most pressure point stable sails in the group.

The handy characteristics come into their own in manoeuvres or loops, where the Manic easily positions itself in the top field. Because the profile also flattens out when the board is ridden upwind, even ambitious freestyle tricks are possible. On the wave, the GA-Sails also scores with its light and neutral handling, but is not a powerhouse in light winds either.

Surf summary of the GA-Sails Manic 4.7

The new Manic impresses as a very light and agile wave and freestyle sail. If you are primarily looking for a maximally stable and powerful sail for freeriding or a maximally powerful wave sail, you will not be completely happy here.
