Wave sail test 2023: The Naish Force 4 4.7 in the individual evaluation with all strengths and weaknesses

With its compact luff size and low weight, the Force 4 promises good handling. The sail always wants to be rigged with a comparatively large amount of visible loose leech, and on the boom you have all the options from bulbous light wind to flat strong wind trim. You can love or hate the open pulley for the downhaul rope.

The Force 4 is agile and light in the hand when duffing, and thanks to the centre of effort being further back, you don't have to search for the right angle of attack to the wind for long and can get planing easily and early. In manoeuvres such as jibes and duck jibes, the sail fully lives up to expectations, it can be rotated nimbly through duck jibes and loops and can be put down playfully in manoeuvres. On the wave, the Force really unleashes its power, pulling reliably through the bottom turn - ideal for reaching the top of the wave lip with plenty of oomph. But the Force 4 also performs excellently when pulled flat, even offering a passable off.

Surf summary of the Naish Force 4 4.7

Highly planing, light and with a powerful drive - depending on the trim, the Force 4 has several faces, thus covering a wide range of uses and is suitable for manoeuvring sessions on flat water as well as in crashing surf.
