Wave sail test 2023: The RRD Vogue HD 4.7 in the individual evaluation with all strengths and weaknesses

More profile depth and a deeper outhaul are intended to positively influence the planing power and twist behaviour of the new Vogue HD. The sail is rigged on a 400 mm mast, with a trim mark in the top to help you find the right setting. The Vogue HD requires very little tension on the boom in the normal wind range. Rigged in this way, it loads up immediately in the planing phase, is stable in the hand and thus offers characteristics that make it easy for cracks and wave novices alike to cross the planing threshold without pumping.

Even when powered up, the centre of effort is stable and the wind range in mid-trim is above average, meaning that re-trimming is rarely necessary. The RRD also pulls powerfully into the bottom turn on the wave and ensures that you have enough power at the wave lip for powerful carves or wave moves. The fact that it doesn't quite play in the Champions League in direct comparison when it comes to handling hardly spoils the fun.

Surf summary of the RRD Vogue HD 4.7

The RRD Vogue is pleasantly uncomplicated, planing strong and blessed with great control - a characteristic that scores just as well in the Ijsselmeer chop as in mast-high waves. Only those looking for maximum lightness should take a closer look.
