Swiss Windsurfing invites all Swiss and international windsurfers to the traditional regatta in Hyeres at Easter. "This race looks back on a long tradition and can boast that in its more than 25-year history it has always been possible to organise races because there has always been wind. Sometimes a lot of wind, a lot," writes the new organiser Paul Sintic. In addition to amateur surfers, some professionals also use the event for training after the winter break. In the days leading up to the regattas, Nico Warembourg will be on site with tips, tricks and test material.
Sintic has announced some innovations for this year. For example, 8-man slalom will be on the programme as a long distance event, with course races being dropped. Finn riders will have their own classification and their own heats. The lower wind limit is twelve knots, "so the XXL equipment can stay at home."
Sprint slalom promises plenty of excitement
The "Sprint Slalom" format is completely new. Paul Sintic explains: "It promises to be great entertainment for everyone. The Finn riders will start on the sandy beach, without equipment. This is held ready in knee-deep water by a caddy from the foil group. This is followed by a long beat to the turning buoy and back. The finish line is again on the beach. In the meantime, the caddies collect the equipment and protect it from damage. Helmets compulsory for all!"
The special highlight here is that a boat is used as a turning buoy. As soon as the first person has rounded it, the boat follows the leader and shortens the distance for the chasers. "The finish should definitely be close. It's fun for everyone and, above all, it should be fun!"
There will also be a daily GPS speed evaluation, with prizes such as a sail from Patrik for the foilers and a carbon fin from Lorch for the best Finn pilot.
