Michele Becker is on a roll: after winning the DWC season opener off Ahlbeck and a strong performance at the World Cup on Lake Garda, the sailor from Kiel was also hard to beat off Sylt. He won six out of nine eliminations and didn't even have to compete in the last two races. "It's great to end this phase with so many regattas like this!" wrote Becker on Instagram. "It's always a pleasure to race off Sylt with all the other top riders!"
Gunnar Asmussen was also able to slowly round off the summer opening and no longer needed to be on the water for the final elimination. With two wins and five second places, he was well ahead of his rivals Jonne Heimann and Fabian Wolf. Before the final day, both were tied on points for third place, but Fabian Wolf managed to finish ahead of Jonne Heimann three times on Sunday to secure third place. However, Jonne Heimann was best U21 Junior ahead of Leo Richter and Tjorve Studt, while Anton Richter was ahead of Men Büchler in the U19 classification. Thies Paustian was best master over 50.
After a windless Thursday, there was enough wind for foiling races on the following three days. A total of 14 starters came to Sylt for the Summer Opening, with the usual programme on land running parallel to the racing action on the water.
There had already been a wave alarm on Wednesday with winds from the north-west, and in a double elimination with six starters, the winner was Henri Kolberg ahead of Anton Richter and Nick Spangenberg . These three also secured the prize money of 1000 euros in the "LVM Grand Prix", which is always distributed among the top 3 of the first race in the Windsurf Cup this year.
The next stops in the German Windsurf Cup are Borkum from 8 to 11 June (with the IFCA Slalom European Championship), before heading to St. Peter-Ording and Sylt again in July. The season ends on 25 - 27 August in Heiligenhafen.
