The Multivan Windsurf Cup kicks off the 2023 season at the end of April, with six tour stops on the calendar, including Sylt twice. A new spot will be added with Heiligenhafen.
International titles will also be awarded in 2023 with the IFCA Slalom European Championships on Borkum and the European Formula Foil Championships in Heiligenhafen. Heiligenhafen is also a new spot on the calendar that offers great spectator potential and a spectacular backdrop with the pier.
In contrast to the IFCA, the GWA (German Windsurfing Association) is sticking with the idea of Finns and Foils competing together in the Open Class and allowing riders to choose freely. Despite many voices from the field of riders who did not feel comfortable with the open class and no longer saw a platform for pure Finn slalom, the GWA decided at the annual general meeting to stick with the format introduced in 2022. "The quorum on site was small and many members who did not feel comfortable with the open foil slalom format were not there. Nevertheless, the decision of the Annual General Meeting will be taken into account in the coming season," says the GWA. Nevertheless, there will be a pure Finn slalom parallel to the Open Class in medium and strong winds.
For the Multivan Windsurf Cup 2023, several disciplines are possible within the individual events: Open Foil Slalom (IFCA Open Division), Finn Slalom (IFCA Fin Division) and Racing (Formula Foil). Depending on the forecast, there may also be another "wave alarm". Which discipline(s) are scheduled for which regatta can be found in the official tour schedule or the respective "Notice of Race". The number of participants is limited to 40 in the slalom and a maximum of 24 in the wave riding.
Last year, Michele Becker won the annual German Windsurf Cup ahead of Jonne Heimann and Fabian Wolf.
