On the Friday before the actual race weekend, the programme started with the Foil Academy with two coaches, where the eight participants were able to gain practical experience on the foil as well as theoretical basics. Our partner Starboard & Severne provided boards, foils and sails for the programme so that new equipment could also be tried out.
Almost 50 windsurfers were then at the start of the races on Saturday. With eleven U19 surfers, seven female starters and eighteen rookies, the field of participants was well mixed and in line with the mission of the Jedermann Regatta to promote young talent and women in particular.
"In fantastic Baltic Sea conditions with up to 25 knots of wind and bright sunshine, all racers, whether fin or foil, got their money's worth," enthused organisers Oliver-Tom Schliemann and Leon Delle. After four races in each of the "Foil Mixed" and "Fin only" divisions, the slalom was over and the first wave riding of the new German Wave Tour continued
The three dedicated surfers Lars Bubelach, Nick Spangenberg and Sebastian Bail have also come up with a beginner-friendly and uncomplicated wave format with the stand-by contest, which was immediately well received at the premiere in Kellenhusen.
The 50 or so racers were joined by just under 40 wave surfers, some of whom also competed in both disciplines - an impressive number. In the evening, there was a joint barbecue at the Kellenhusen water sports centre and an aftersurf party with DJ LeMay. The final highlight was the fireworks display as part of the "Seebrücke im Lichtermeer" event.
On Sunday, another four races were held in the "Foil Mixed" and two races in the "Fin Only" classification. The crowning finale was a race outside the official classification, in which all 50 participants surfed the course together in a defi-start format.
After eight races in the "Foil Mixed" and six races in the "Fin Only" division, the winners in the U19, women's, rookie and overall categories were crowned. The winners were able to enjoy a total of 1001 euros in prize money, which was sponsored by the online surf shop Wind Lounge. "The Wind Lounge team was also on site with a test stand and actively supported the participants with equipment and expertise; a great addition to the regatta format," said a delighted Leon Delle and Oliver-Tom Schliemann.
"The Baltic seaside resort of Kellenhusen proved to be the ideal location for our Everyman Regatta. The support from the tourism service was outstanding and the feedback from the participants was consistently positive," said the organisers happily. "What's more, we had fantastic conditions this weekend, which meant we were even able to organise a wave contest. This makes it fun to organise events and offer windsurfing a stage."
And this event will not be the only one: "We are already pleased to announce that we will be back in the Baltic seaside resort of Kellenhusen in 2024. Then perhaps not only with the windsurfers." This means that the sister format Winger of the Sea could also come to Kellenhusen.
