The third phase of the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge 2023 runs from 1 October to 30 November, which means that the speed event in Lüderitz also falls within this time frame - so high speeds are inevitable and new records are possible at any time.
In addition to the top speed over 250 metres, the showpiece discipline of the DSC, there will once again be a special challenge in this period: who can achieve the top speed over 2 seconds? "Normally in speed surfing we take into account an average speed over a certain distance or the classic, the average of 5 x 10 seconds," says Dunki. "But this time we want to see really big numbers on the screens!" The 100 km/h mark has already been surpassed over such short periods of time.
Speed surfing all over the world
As in all three periods of the Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge, there are individual rankings for fins, foils and wingfoiling. The ranking list is based on the average speed over 250 metres. In addition to the open class for women and men, there are also separate rankings for Grand Master (51-60), Super Master (61-70), Ultimate Master (71-99), Youth (0-10), Junior (11-14) and Junior Plus (15-18).

"Anyone from anywhere in the world can take part, all you need is an account on gps-speedsurfing.com and a suitable GPS device," says Dunki. What's more, participation is free of charge. With the " Waterspeed App " you can also measure your sessions on your mobile phone, and there are plans to integrate the app into the GPS rankings in 2024.
