From 6 to 9 July, the Multivan Windsurf Cup will be coming to St. Peter-Ording for its fourth stop of the year. However, due to storm "Poly", which passed over northern Germany yesterday, the starting signal will be delayed until Friday. "Today's set-up work on Ordinger Strand unfortunately had to be postponed due to the storm and the threat of flooding on the beach," said Katharina Schirmbeck, Tourism Director of St. Peter-Ording, yesterday. "It is of the utmost importance that no one is harmed," continued Schirmbeck.
In order to still be able to keep to the schedule, an "express set-up" will take place from the early hours of the morning today, Thursday.
Three days of slalom races are then on the programme at the legendary North Sea spot, with both mixed fin and foil and pure fin races if the conditions allow. In recent years, the wave alarm has been sounded more frequently for St. Peter, but the conditions don't look like it this year.
There is also a large event village with a bungee trampoline, children's carousel, beach chair lounge and many other attractions on the extensive Ordingen beach. The Van-Life-Expo, which presents everything to do with the mobile lifestyle, also awaits visitors. Here you can admire the latest VW California models, the new Multivan and the ID. Buzz can be admired. Numerous suppliers will be presenting complementary solutions for the VW Bullis, from extension solutions for the VW Transporter to roof tents and winches. There will also be a party tent for the first time, where DJs will be playing on three evenings. During the parties (Thursday until 11.00 pm, Friday and Saturday until 1.30 am) it will also be possible to park on the beach for longer than normal.
In sporting terms, the Windsurf Cup in St. Peter-Ording could be exciting: Michele Becker, who has won all three events so far this year, is currently still at the World Cup in Gran Canaria, as is Nico Prien. Will the two of them return from there in time for the event when the races before Pozo are over? Or is this the chance for rivals such as Gunnar Asmussen, Fabian Wolf, Jonne Heimann and co to fight it out amongst themselves?
As always at the Windsurf Cup, 1000 euros in prize money will be awarded to the top 3 in the first race, regardless of the discipline and the final result.
