Michele Becker will not be taking part in any competitions this summer. Instead, he is focussing on his offspring and treating his back problems
Michele Becker is taking a break from competition, he announced on Instagram. The reasons for this are the impending birth of his child and ongoing back problems. Becker is planning his return for the PWA World Cup on Sylt in September.

Michele Becker has announced a break from competition. The athlete will not be taking part in any competitions in the coming months, including the Season opener of the DWC on Sylhe was not there, just as he was not at the EPWT event in Cold Hawaii. Becker cites two personal factors as the main reasons for this decision: firstly, he and his wife are expecting a child next month, and secondly, he is still struggling with back problems that have been affecting him for some time.

The birth of his first child is at the centre of Michele Becker's decision. "We're having a baby next month, which of course we're really looking forward to!" he explains in his statement. He emphasises that this new phase of life requires his full attention: "But as you probably know, it also means a lot of work for my wife and me. I feel that this deserves my full attention."

In addition to the joyful anticipation of the next generation, Becker continues to face health challenges. His ongoing back problems also play a role in his decision to take a break from competition. "It's still up and down with my back problems," admits the athlete. Despite an overall positive development and further medical advice, Becker does not yet feel fit enough to take part in the originally planned events.

Return to the World Cup Sylt

Despite the current break, Michele Becker is already planning his return to the competition circuit. He has set his sights on the PWA World Cup on Sylt in September for his comeback. This planning fits in well with the PWA's competition calendar, as the next Foil World Cup does not take place until then. However, he will miss several DWC regattas and possible EPWT events as well as the IFCA World Championship in Turkey. Becker emphasises: "I will still get out on the water here and there, but I won't be taking part in any competitions until September."

Michele Becker is grateful for the support he is receiving during this phase. "I can only say thank you to my family, friends, fans and partners for your understanding and continuous support," emphasises the Kiel native. His main sponsor Patrik is also behind Becker's decision. In an official statement, he said: "Life means change. Adapting to these changes is more important than sticking to an outdated plan. Supporting these changes is the key to a strong partnership between a brand and a professional rider."
