In addition to sailing and hardware, North Sails has also launched a membership programme
North Sails is not only back on the market with new sails, but has also launched the "Club North". We asked what's behind it.

After the name North Sails had disappeared from the windsurfing scene for a few years, the brand returned this spring, initially with a Wave sail line and new technology back. Behind this is a complete relaunch: while the "old" North has continued to operate under the name Duotone for several years, the "North Actionsports Group" now has the rights to the familiar name and logo. North Kiteboarding and the accessories label Mystic also come from the same company.

The "Club North" was recently advertised on social media to offer windsurfers and other water sports enthusiasts all-round cover. Eva Elseman is the event coordinator for the club and reveals what is on offer to members.

How did the idea of creating a community for windsurfers in addition to water sports hardware come about?

We recognised the need for a service that brings the community together. We wanted to create a community centred around what we have in common - a love of water. That's why Club North is open to all brands. CN is the first members club in the watersports sector. It's about clearing your head and having more fun on the water. The aim is to create a sense of belonging on a deeper level.

Do you have to ride a North sail to belong to the club?

No, the club is open to everyone. Those who join will of course learn a lot about Mystic and North products and receive advance offers for new products!

What do you get as a club member?

We've got your back! "Club North members have insurance, extended warranties and the best wind forecast available. In detail, we have on-water insurance for accidents and equipment, extended warranties, premium access to the wind app "Pro Weather", discounts on repairs, advance insight into new products, free shipping for North and Mystic products, a welcome gift, special experiences at events and the opportunity to test our products at demo events.

What exactly does the insurance cover?

For 2022, all active members have personal accident insurance and equipment insurance as standard. The on-water insurance helps in the event of an accident or crash, while the equipment insurance covers the repair or replacement of the equipment if it is damaged or lost during the flight. In addition, the hire of equivalent equipment is reimbursed if your own arrives late or is so damaged that it cannot be repaired.

Why are these insurances better for windsurfers than the normal policies?

Most surfers are probably covered by their normal liability or household contents insurance. Club North can also cover damage that occurs on the water. In addition, windsurfing equipment is not covered by most travel insurance policies. Accident insurance usually covers injuries and rehabilitation, while equipment insurance covers the equipment when travelling abroad. Our members are also reimbursed for repairs. And as already mentioned, you can also hire equipment of the same value if the equipment arrives late. With CN, you are covered on windsurfing trips as well as at your home spot or if you want to try something new.

What events and goodies are included for club members?

As a welcome gift, you will receive a "Club North" poncho. We are currently developing a worldwide event programme with exclusive testing opportunities. There will also be events where members can meet our North team, for example special spectator seats and contact with the riders at the "King of the Air" kite event in November.

How expensive is the whole thing?

Membership of "Club North" costs 120 euros per year.
