The two-part event on Fuerte begins with the freestylers, who had already completed their first few laps yesterday. Whilst the women will be crowning their world champion at this very event, the men still have a second contest on the programme – Sylt. Even so, there’s no room for error there either.
According to the entry list, Sebastian Gux is the only German competitor in the men’s event. In the women’s event, Lisa Kloster is capable of challenging the world’s best. Alongside her, Sandra Schill and Helena Derya Lale are also entered, as well as Lina Schmied from Austria.
There is a change to the scoring system this year: whilst each rider must still perform at least two manoeuvres on each side, only the two manoeuvres with the highest scores will count. This means that the number of manoeuvres on each side does not have to be the same, and a rider could, for example, perform four highly-scoring manoeuvres on the port tack and only two on the starboard tack – or vice versa. In addition, the PWA has revamped the way heats are presented.
