In 2023, the Racer of the Sea everyman regatta will not only feature Prize money for the first time but also special prizes for up-and-coming starters. The main prize will be an exclusive sponsorship deal from Starboard and Severne for the 2024 season. This prize will go to the rookie with the best annual ranking in the mixed (fin and foil) or fin only division. The besttwoPlacings in the Racer of the Sea regattas in 2023.
"Starboard and Severne Germany and APM Marketing GmbH have been on board with our project from the very beginning and have always emphasised how important the promotion of young talent is to them. We are therefore delighted to be able to support the young people with this opportunity," says organiser Oliver-Tom Schliemann about the deal.
In addition, a Severne sail worth up to 1500 euros will be raffled off among all participating U19 surfers who are still rookies. For every regatta participation, one ticket with the name goes into the lottery pot. So if you take part in all three regattas, you triple your chance of winning.
"It was important to us to have a prize where it's not about being the best, but where everyone has the same chance of winning. It doesn't matter whether you're always at the front or always at the back, the chances of winning the sail are the same for everyone," says Leon Delle about the background to the prize draw.
There is an additional prize to be won for the young female surfers. All U19 girls who take part in at least one of the first two Racer of the Sea regattas this year will be entered into a prize draw to win a place at the Girls Camp with Lina Erpenstein.
As a fourth prize, the two initiators wanted to award something that would benefit all young people equally and also have a positive effect outside of the Racer of the Sea regattas. This is why 1001grad UG is paying the entry fee for all U19 participants in the Racer of the Sea to take part in the official Youth Championship 2023, which will take place from 30 September to 3 October 2023 at the Wittensee Water Sports Club.
"The official youth championship is the only regatta in Germany where youth championship titles in windsurfing are awarded and is therefore the highlight for most young regatta surfers at national level. It was therefore a matter close to our hearts to support and promote participation in this highlight of the season," say Leon and Oli about their sponsorship.
