The first event of the "Dream Tour" organised by IWT and PWA unfortunately fell short of expectations, at least from a sporting perspective. After at least the women's single elimination could be completed on the first day and the first two rounds of the men's event could be ridden, the wind and waves took their leave. Unfortunate for the riders who had travelled to the event, as the Omaezaki spot had shown just how good it can be in the days leading up to the event.
At least the conditions were still good enough for a few heats for the juniors and masters, in which many local talents and legends were able to assert themselves. The pros took to the water for a super session with winch support, which was won by freestyler Antoine Albert.
With a traditional Japanese drumming ceremony and good food, the organisers offered the drivers an insight into Japanese culture over the last few days. Despite little action on the water, the mood was good: "We are all grateful to have been a part of the event and look forward to the next edition in 2024!" wrote Robby Swift. Bernd Roediger also had his usual flowery words for the season opener: "This family reunion was the perfect start for the joint IWT/PWA tour, a place where we can get back to the roots of the wonderful traditions of windsurfing. I hope that the spirit of Omaezaki will drive us on the tour for the rest of the year!"
In any case, Bernd Roediger deserves the prize for probably the longest Spock of all time:
