The ProLimit Mercury Hooded 6/4 impresses with the best possible stretch and comfort. Read our test to find out whether it can also keep up in terms of thermal insulation.

The official (and somewhat unwieldy) product name is "Mercury Steamer Hooded 6/4 Thermal Rebound FTM". The winter model from ProLimit was given some updates for the test last autumn and is still in the range unchanged. It differs from older ProLimit models (e.g. compared to the 2019 winter neo test). For example, the once thin bonnet is now a thing of the past, with a thickness comparable to that of competitor models. Inside, a layer of aluminium is integrated into the lining, Thermal rebound that reflect body heat. The entry area is also said to have been modified, although it is still comparatively generously cut. ProLimit emphasises that the entry area will have been modified again for the 2025 season to prevent water ingress (HERE is a test of the 2025 model).

This means that you can get in effortlessly. Even without the manoeuvrability of a contortionist, the Neo is easy to put on in the shoulder area. Once inside, however, you feel close to the contortionist, as the Mercury Hooded 6/4 offers unrivalled stretch and freedom of movement. It adapts perfectly to the contours of the body and also offers enough stretch on the forearms for a relaxed grip. The Mercury has been given cosy and warming plush in the torso and front thighs.

Convenient access

The seams are sealed on the outside, and no water penetrated here at all in the practical test. Only the slightly wider entry area compared to the competition allowed water to penetrate in certain situations, e.g. during heavy washing or falls, because the bonnet and collar do not overlap as much here. Thanks to small "drain holes", this water can drain away quickly, but some body heat is still lost.

Apart from that, the ProLimit Mercury Hooded 6/4 looks absolutely mature. The bonnet is cut wide enough in the neck area to allow you to turn your head in a relaxed manner. The bonnet is covered with very soft neoprene at the face end, which makes it very comfortable to wear and also provides a good seal.

ProLimit Mercury Hooded 6/4 - the conclusion:

The winter neo from ProLimit undoubtedly sets the standard in terms of stretch and freedom of movement. The Mercury Hooded 6/4 therefore offers the best possible wearing comfort. The generous entry area makes it easy to put on and take off, the price is a slightly lower seal in this area. We would therefore classify the comfort range as between four and 12 degrees.
