The French brand Soöruz also has a neo for the cold season in its programme with the Guru+ Hood model. The details of the wetsuit were recently revised, but the 2023 model from the test is still available in many shops as discontinued stock. According to Soöruz, the neoprene is produced using partially recycled PET material, a foam made from oyster shells and water-based adhesives. The Soöruz Guru+ Hood is quite thick. The neoprene measures six millimetres on the torso and a whopping five millimetres on the legs.
Nevertheless, it's still easy to get on, as the neoprene turns out to be very stretchy throughout. Soöruz has plenty of plush on the inside. This extends from the ankles up over the torso area and into the bonnet. Thanks to this and the slightly more generously designed fit, you can slip into the Neo without any resistance.
The plush not only promotes comfort, but also makes a significant contribution to the Neo's excellent thermal insulation. Air heated by the body is trapped in the pores, creating a warm air cushion around the body. A positive side effect: the material dries faster than average between sessions.
The workmanship of the seams also appears to be of the highest quality: they are blindstitched and glued to be waterproof. They are also taped on the inside and proved to be absolutely watertight in practical tests. The bonnet was also designed with great attention to detail: the material used in the neck area is very stretchy, making it easy to turn your head without having to work against any resistance. Smooth-skin neoprene was then used in the upper area to reduce wind chill. The closure around the face is particularly soft, with a drawstring that can be used to close the bonnet against water ingress.
The Soöruz Guru+ Hood, which is even slightly cheaper in comparison, turned out to be the benchmark among winter neos in the test. The thermal insulation is at the highest level thanks to the almost non-existent water penetration in combination with a high-quality lining and thick material thickness. We would place the comfort range at zero to ten degrees. The fact that the winter neo also scores highly in terms of wearing comfort with great stretch and is still easy to put on and take off rounds off the thoroughly positive impression.
