The O'Neill Psycho Tech 6/4 wetsuit is warm enough for even the coldest days and impresses with its high-quality features. However, the test also revealed some limitations.

The men's version of the O'Neill Psycho Tech Neo will no longer be part of the manufacturer's official range in autumn 2024, but is still available as discontinued stock in some shops. We tested the model last autumn. The winter Neo comes in a thickness of 6/4 millimetres and is designed for the coldest temperatures. The wetsuit is available in standard sizes, but also in shorter or longer intermediate sizes. The test revealed a lot of light and some shade:

On the inside, from the neck down to the ankles, a brand-internal Firewall plush lining. The inner lining ensures a high level of comfort and - a positive side effect - dries exceptionally quickly between sessions. All seams on the inside and outside are taped or sealed to be waterproof. The entry area at the collar is rather narrow, requiring considerably more effort to put on and take off. However, thanks to the large overlap between the bonnet and the neoprene material underneath, virtually no water penetrates here, even during heavy crashes and washes. The bonnet is also lined on the inside and, like the torso area, is made of smooth-skin neoprene, which minimises wind chill. Thanks to a drawstring, the bonnet can also be pulled perfectly tight. If a little water does get in, it drains away through a small drainage hole at the back without getting under the collar.

In our opinion, the bonnet is a little too tight around the chin - if you mumble, it's certainly not due to the cold. The legs and leg cuffs of the O'Neill Pyscho Tech are also designed to be narrow, which means that the overall step-in comfort is slightly below average. There is an integrated pocket on the shin for a key. The freedom of movement on the water is good overall despite the tight cut, although there are competitor models that offer a little more flex.

O'Neill Psycho Tech 6/4 - the conclusion:

The O'Neill Psycho Tech is a high-priced but also very well-equipped winter sneaker that plays in the Champions League in terms of thermal insulation. Good detailed solutions, a warm inner lining and high-quality materials also allow sessions in icy water without any problems. The comfort range is between 0 and 10° Celsius, depending on your constitution and subjective perception of warmth. The cut is better suited to slim riders, less so to surfing wardrobes. Minor shortcomings are the cut of the bonnet and the mediocre comfort when putting on and taking off.
