Twelve wave sails of the 2023 vintage are included in the test. The requirement for the group was "Send us an all-round wave sail for North and Baltic Sea surf and occasional flat water sessions!" The surf test team chased the sails through the first autumn and winter storms in St. Peter-Ording and Rømø in October and November, with more test sessions to follow in the upcoming easterly wind phase over the next few days. The conditions ranged from a dumping wind with sideoffshore to sideonshore with a lot of pressure.
With the Goya Eclipse, the Patrik Wave 5, the S2Maui Alchemy and the Sailloft Curve, there are four candidates with five battens and seven sails with four battens. Included in the big comparison test for the first time is the North Sails Wave which was previously only ridden in a single test. Only three slats are installed here.
There are also clear differences in other aspects at first glance: the test sails weigh between 2.2 and 3.5 kilos at the start, and there are differences of several hundred euros in price. Whether this has an effect on the water is one of the exciting questions in this test!
Compared to the Wave sail test 2022 The sister models of some brands are included in the test: S1 instead of Blade from Severne, Curve instead of Quad from Sailloft, 5 Wave instead of 4 Wave from Patrik, Wavescape instead of Purelip from Loftsails and Eclipse instead of Banzai from Goya.
In the gallery above we show the first impressions of the sails and selected details.
