We take a look back at the world champions of the year! In addition to the well-known PWA champions, world titles were also awarded in various other classes.

PWA World Cup

Even though the PWA Tour 2022 had shrunk considerably over the course of the year (Covid, lack of sponsors, but also official problems led to numerous cancellations), there were still exciting, sometimes dramatic decisions about the titles. Nevertheless, the tour is currently just a shadow of days gone by. There was no Freestyle Cup for the women - and therefore unfortunately no world champion. In slalom, the women's title was decided at just one event. In the wave, they were at least able to compete twice.

The men didn't fare much better. The wave riders were almost spoilt with three wave classifications. However, the slalom title was awarded after just two - and the freestyle title after just one - cup. For the youngsters under 21, there were at least two Wave World Cups and one in Slalom.

Whether the dramatic situation in professional sport will change in 2023 is more than uncertain. However, the riders' association has recognised that something also needs to change in its structure - so that more organisers are once again able to raise a budget for a World Cup. After the World Cup on Sylt, the riders sent a letter in which they called for greater co-operation between the PWA and the IWT (International Wave Tour), among other things. Whether this will succeed, however, is more than questionable. You can find out what changes will actually come into effect in 2023 - and what the tour calendar will look like on paper - here with us!
