When the autumn storms are once again taking their autumn holidays elsewhere and there are no more days left for long-distance travel, it's time to say goodbye to the surfing year. You put the surf gear away, retire to the couch with a good drop of wine and reflect on the season.

What was going on in 2024? Yes well, I bought something again. A few bits and bobs, power joint, a foot strap, extension, boom, mast, two or three sails, just one board. I had to, the big slalom board was almost 12 months old and the colour of the sails didn't match at all. If the salesman hadn't told me that my neo hadn't done well in the test - I wouldn't have noticed, and the new one wasn't that expensive. I just hope that if I ever get eaten by a shark, my wife won't sell all the material for the price I quoted her when I bought it.

Holiday. Yes, holidays, that was something this year. I think we were the only ones with two weeks of continuous Italian rain at Whitsun and two weeks of continuous July rain in Greece. My dear husband, it gets cramped in the camper and you really get to know each other. The first few days we played "Mensch ärgere Dich nicht", then later "Jekyll and Hyde". After five days, we started making lists of who would get what after the divorce. The end of the holiday ruined everything, I would have loved to have got the dishwasher.

Of course, we didn't take any great surf photos this year either and, oh yes, there was this spontaneous weekend trip to Lake Garda. Weather to be a hero witness, killer wind. At the campsite, someone says: "Watch out, fins are being stolen!" "OK, thanks!" The next morning, our fins had indeed disappeared from the roof of the campervan, albeit together with the boards. "They probably forgot their tools to unscrew the fins." "Sure, that's reassuring". The fact that the carabinieri thought we were the thieves rather than the robbers for two days afterwards was rather small fry compared to the overall situation in 2024.

But because I'm a positive person, my conclusion for 2024 is: great season, I'm already curious to see what happens next year!
